After nearly eleven years of wonderful ministry in Pittsburgh with City Reformed Church, we were given a three month sabbatical for the summer of 2016. Part of that time will be used by Matt to pursue a writing project, but we wanted to use this rare opportunity to travel beyond our own national borders and serve with the church in another part of the world. We have been aware of the recent refugee crisis in Europe and wanted to be involved. After exploring several options we were asked to assist a local Greek church in caring for the refugees in their midst.

We will be in Athens, Greece from June 12 through August 10, 2016, partnering with Servant Group International.

We have three goals for the trip:

1.) Personal Growth. We desire to use this opportunity to cultivate in ourselves and in our children a greater awareness of the world and a heart for service towards those in need.

2.) We want to partner with the local church. We will be helping a small Evangelical church in Athens develop an English language ministry for refugees.

3.) We want to be available to assist in appropriate ways with direct care for refugees. There are great needs for refugee care and we will look to offer support in ways that correspond to our individual and family circumstances. SGI will help us to do this.

We need your help.

We ask you to pray that our time would be a benefit to those in need and encouragement to the church.
